New this year:
Please check our Google group Philadelphia Swedish Dance and sign up for e-mail announcements for up-to-date info. This works as a normal e-mail group and I will send reminders and other related info for musicians and dancers.
Dancing:
Dance instruction by Alicia Björnsdotter Abrams for the first hour, followed by open dancing to live music. Depending on the number and skills of those who show up we might do more or less instruction, but the goal is to create a community with people who know a bunch of fun Swedish couple dances: Polska, slängpolska, schottis, springlek, polka and långdans for instance.
Music - The Philadelphia Spelmanslag:
During the first hour and dance instruction, The Philadelphia Spelmanslag will play. For the open dancing, Alicia will provide live music but also invites anyone who wants to play for dancing to bring an instrument. We also have guests come to play for us! If you would like to join the Philadelphia Spelmanslag, please contact me and sign up for the Philadelphia Swedish Dance Google group, for announcements on the next gathering. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Swedish music, dance groove and arranging in a large group.
