2nd Sunday's Swedish Dancing and the Philadelphia Spelmanslag
My newest projects include the start-up of a regular Swedish Dance event in Philadelphia. We meet monthly in MtAiry and I teach Swedish couple dances for the first hour, then we have open dancing to live music. You will have the chance to play to the newly established Philadephia Spelmanslag as well as myself and visiting musicians. Come join us! More info here.
Solo
My solo repertoire is mostly music from western Dalarna, from the village of Malung. This place has been
and still is gifted with some amazing musicians. The tunes from this area are dance tunes like springlek
and polska, often with open tuning and lots of energy. I also play tunes from the Swedish-speaking part
of Finland. Here you find lightning-fast polkas and elegant menuets. From Agder in Norway I have some
wonderfully crooked and powerful tunes. Then I usually can't keep myself from throwing in some reels
from Shetland or Prince Edward Island.
Björnsdotter • Reid
Fiddle duo with Emma Reid. We play our favorite traditional dance music, twin-fiddle style: tunes from western Dalarna, Finland and England. The occasional Shetland reel and I bring out the viola once in a while as well. By now we have created our very own twin-fiddle sound.
Ditt Ditt Darium
With singers Johanna Bölja Hertzberg and Ebba Jacobsson, and fiddler Emma Reid, this Swedish group has an unusual setting
with duo strings and voices. The songs we do are often stories of the sea, hymns and precious little ones
about love or ... porridge. The four parts are lyrically and tightly braided together. I feel very lucky
to play with these musicians. More on Ditt Ditt Darium.
Anak
This group emerged from the group Glogg. In this trio with Hélène Brunet (guitar) and Emily Hawkes
(Irish wooden flute) we blend traditional music from Brittany and Sweden. With Emily's driving melody
and Hélène's funky rhythm guitar, I get the role of middle voice on the violin and the viola, and I sing.
Björnsdotter&McLane
I met Jeremiah McLane in a festival in New Jersey, USA, a few years ago. Ever since we've been wanting to
play together and now that I moved closer - it's time! With his accordeon Jeremiah explores music with a special
love for styles with French origins: Breton, Auvergne, French Canadian, Zydeco. To Jeremiah's website.
Krokodil
Krokodil plays wild, energetic music from Agder in Norway and Kaustinen in Finland. With Anna Holm,
contra bass, and Kristoffer Pettersson, hungarian kontra and alto nyckelharpa, this group has a rough and
warm sound. I do lead fiddle and percussive feet.
